The Laverstock Character's
As this game spawns new characters, here’s a ‘Who’s who’ of the most prominent players in the story, as on 509AD.
Aliduke of Laverstock:
Father of 5 children, he died in 495, leaving the manor of Laverstock to his eldest son, Arnold.
Arnold of Laverstock:
Eldest of the 3 sons of Aliduke of Laverstock, and Vassal Knight to Earl Robert of Salisbury. A burly and big man, filled with energy. At court, he may be a bit awkward but he is always eager to have a chat with everyone. Renowned for his skill with the long sword. His loyalty to his lord knows no bounds. Perhaps a touch naive, Arnold never asks too many questions. He carries out every task of his Lord with equal conviction. Married to Maelys of Pitton, who brought the Pitton lands in the fold. Maelys died in childbirth.
Perin of Laverstock:
Second son of Aliduke and brother to Arnold. He’s the head of the Household knights of the Laverstocks, always in the vicinity of his older brother. Slightly smaller than his brother and also slightly less committed to martial arts. On the other hand, he emerged more as a schemer at court. It is he who will refill your glass, give you a pat on the back or have a good laugh with your joke before smoothly moving on to the most important new gossip. Married to the lady Christen.
Gervan of Laverstock:
Third son of Aliduke, (5 years younger than Arnold) enjoys the most prominent position amongst the household knights of Laverstock: None of the responsibilities of running a manor, yet enjoying the benefits of a high-born. He tries to make up for it by proving himself in battle.
Married with Erwana, without children.
Marion and Azeline of Laverstock:
After his 3 sons, Aliduke fathered 2 daughters. Marion is married to Alberick, Azeline to Morial (Morial is the only male in the family who’s not knighted). Again, due to the poor and difficult years, all these marriages are without children.
Alberick:
Brother-in-law to Arnold and one of his household knights. He’s been struck by burning Saxon arrows in 504 and in a mysterious sleep ever since. One prophet named the curse of Alberick ‘the saxon rot’ and a prophesy has it the curse will be lifted once Britain’s true king makes himself known.
Wido and Otto:
Older cousins to Arnold, both sons from brothers of Aliduke. Both are part of the Laverstock household knights.
Eberhard:
A younger cousin, squire to Arnold since 504.
Lady Lynette:
Daughter of the Steward of Laverstock, married to Arnold in 509 in an urgently arranged marriage by Sir Robert
Others
Sir Elad, Sir Hugh and the Lady Christen:
Elad was the Marshal for Salisbury and fought a couple of battles as commander for the Laverstocks. Father of 3 sons - Sir Hugh being his eldest - and a daughter Christen, who’s married to Perin. Passed the batton to Sir Hugh in 509.
Sir Hugh is a violent, hot-headed and ambitious man and the new Marshal for Salisbury and Castelan of Vagon Castle. Does not like the Laverstocks: Perin for marrying his sister, Arnold for his advice and station to Sir Robert (“one marshall is enough”).
Sir Robert
Who doesn’t know Sir Robert? Brand new - and very young - Earl to the county of Salisbury. His investiture - executed by his mother, the respected Countess Ellen - incomplete by the absence of a King. Admires the Laverstocks, especially after Arnold saved his life in a Saxon ambush.
Named Arnold as the head of his Household knights and militairy advisor
King Nanteleod and Sir Alain of Escavalon
Arnold, and especially Perin, saw in the rise of the powerful and self-righteous Nateleod a future king for the whole of Britain. Perin tirelessly appealed to Nanteleod’s son Alain to give the Laverstocks prominent positions in the ragtag army of Nanteleod. Without much effect. When Nanteleod is slain, Perin is left disillusioned and highly skeptical (not to say paranoia) for power-hungy figures.
